10 SURPRISING FLAT STOMACH FOODS

Struggling to shift your belly? In this article we take a look at 10 flat stomach foods you might not have considered yet as you look to get a flatter stomach.

Unwanted belly fat can be the bane of one’s life. No matter what you do, it just doesn’t want to shift. You work out, eat what you assume are the right foods, and avoid all the bad stuff – yet it still remains. You’ve even taken to taking the stairs at work, but nope – nothing doing. What gives? There are two type of belly fat – non-stubborn belly fat, and stubborn-as-heck belly fat. The latter is really hard to get rid of. However, a lot of the time it’s down to eating the wrong foods. And especially if you’ve been eating the same foods over and over again, belly fat becomes hard to get rid of because your body eventually plateau’s. It needs a change-up. It needs new, fat-busting foods to be introduced to your diet. So let’s take a look at 10 surprising flat stomach foods.

Asparagus

Asparagus is hardly the most popular vegetable there is, probably because it makes your urine smell weird. But if you can live with that particular oddity, asparagus is one of the best things you can eat if you’re aiming for a flat belly. Asparagus is rich in pre-biotics, which support a healthy digestive tract. It also contain lots of fibre, which keeps you filled up and also supports a healthy digestive tract. And asparagus is also anti-inflammatory, which means it can calm down gastric inflammation.

Soy Beans

Soy beans are sometimes confused with edamame beans, but they’re two different types of bean. However, they are both green, and they are both good flat stomach foods. Soy wins this round, though, on account of being an excellent way to combat belly fat. Add soy beans to your smoothie, sandwiches or your next plate of salmon and scrambled eggs. Speaking of which …

Salmon

Salmon is one of the healthiest flat stomach foods you can eat, and it’s especially good at combating belly fat. It’s rich in vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, both of which take the fight to fat. Studies have found that people who don’t have adequate levels of vitamin D tend to be heavier than those who do. There is as yet no reason given as to why this is, but one theory is that vitamin D can get trapped in fat cells, and thus can’t do its job. Either way, what’s not up for debate is that vitamin D is essential if you want to stay healthy and fat-free. Salmon can be enjoyed in a rich variety of ways. How about smoked salmon in the morning with scrambled eggs? YUM.

Eggs

Speaking of eggs! When you combine salmon with eggs, you’re really attacking belly fat. Eggs are stuffed with lots of protein, which is why they make the ideal breakfast meal. Why? Because protein keeps you filled up for longer, thus preventing you from over-eating on calorific junk throughout the morning. Eggs are also rich in numerous other nutrients that help to keep you nice and slender, such as tummy-trimming vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is particularly important if you want a flatter stomach, because it breaks down those pesky fat cells in your body.

Eggs aren’t done yet, however. They contain choline too, a nutrient that plays a key role in your body’s fat metabolism. Always remember that most of these nutrients come in the yolk!

Salad Dressing

We’re actually being a bit naughty with our subheading here, as it’s really misleading. Regular salad dressing won’t help you get a flatter belly – indeed, it’ll have quite the opposite effect. But, hey, we get it. No one likes a boring, undressed salad. Unless we can add dressing and enliven its taste, there is no point even eating a salad! Which is why you should use low-fat or even entirely fat-free dressings to bring out the taste in your salads! Either that or just use …

Olive Oil

Knowing which oil to cook with is not so easy anymore. We’ve all been scared off by polyunsaturated fats in cooking oils, so much so that we decide to just go with avocado oil like a hipster and hope for the best. However, olive oil remains one of the best belly fat-fighting oils there is, thanks to its mono-unsaturated fats. These fats help to stabilise your blood sugar levels, which in turn stops you from getting hungry at bizarre times.

Quinoa

This hunger-busting, fat-fighting whole grain is a complete protein that’s also rich in fibre. Add to your bowl of oatmeal or salads to stay full for longer.

Yogurt

For whatever reason, yogurt has developed a reputation among some people for making us fatter, rather than flatter. But thanks to its live bacteria content, the truth is that yogurt helps to flatten your stomach. It’s all to do with all that live bacteria – or probiotics, or good bacteria, as it’s also known. No one really knows why live bacteria reduces bloating. But as long as it works, right?

Almonds

Almonds are one of the best flat stomach foods and you can snack on them to stay in shape. They’re rich in both fibre and protein, which means they’re the perfect snack that helps to keep the pangs of hunger at bay throughout the day. They’re also rich in magnesium, a key micronutrient that your body uses to produce more energy while also regulating your blood sugar levels and repairing muscle tissue. Almonds are inexpensive, and are easy to box up and take to work. Happy munching!

Apples

Not only does an apple a day keep the doctor away, it also helps to keep belly fat at bay. Unusually for a fruit, apples are absolutely stuffed with fibre. This means that they’re a great snack to eat if you want to avoid binge-snacking on fatty foods. They’re also 85% water.

What are your favourite flat stomach foods?

Stay happy!
